Tips for Taking Care of Your Garage Door Tracks

by Maxine Ingram

Garage door tracks were invented to make room for owners to easily park their cars. Before cars became a standard, they were parked in large warehouses because people didn't really build garages in their homes. But nowadays, everyone has a car and a garage to park it into.

Most people take for granted how their garage doors can rise and lower into place every time. However, due to this ignorance (or negligence), problems can arise and people often get frustrated why they're broken. The fact of the matter is that it's all about maintenance. People who have custom-made garage doors usually don't have a problem because they built it themselves. However, most people don't have that option. So if you're wondering on how to do proper maintenance for your garage door, then keep reading.

Construed ... as turf, home just seems a provisional claim, a designation you make upon a place, not one it makes on you. A certain set of buildings, a glimpsed, smudged window-view across a schoolyard, a musty aroma sniffed behind a garage when you were a child, all of which come crowding in upon your latter-day senses—those are pungent things and vivid, even consoling. But to me they are also inert and nostalgic and unlikely to connect you to the real, to that essence art can sometimes achieve, which is permanence.

Improper balance is one of the indirect reasons why your garage door tracks may have some problems in the future. Though it's not really the main cause of why your tracks can be damaged, it still contributes to the overall problem. If it's increasingly becoming difficult to raise or lower your garage door, then you can bet that your garage door tracks will give out sooner or later. You need to check out if something's wrong with the balance so as to avoid any future headaches.

Although you can check for yourself to see if there are other problems, it's recommended that you let a qualified garage door professional inspect it for you. Some of these balance problems might be caused by the tension in the springs, but you can never really know unless you get an expert to check it out and be sure.

The reason why most tracks are having problems is because the sliding of the wheels is not running smoothly. The best way to be sure is to do a regular checkup. Many garage door owners forget to do their regular inspection and ultimately take it for granted. It is recommended that you should at least do a proper inspection of your garage door at least once a year. If you can, make it six months. Check your garage door for worn hinges, loose screws or bolts, and anything else that might look like it's about to give out. When you find some problems, immediately fix it or get some replacement parts. Don't wait for a day or two because you never know when the whole thing might fall apart.

You’re a woman who’s been getting nothing but dirty breaks. Well, we can clean and tighten your brakes, but you’ll have to stay in the garage all night.

Proper lubrication is also another thing you should be worried about. All garage doors need oil so that their mechanisms can slide and roll properly. Oil everything, from the hinges, to the rollers, to the tracks; make sure they're properly lubricated. Oil is essential to preventing rust from developing on important parts of your garage door.

All the nuts, bolts, hinges, tracks, and panels, must be properly aligned so that you can be assured that your garage door is relatively safe from problems. A garage door track must be in exact alignment so as to guide the rollers. Track alignment can be somewhat difficult so it's best that you come prepared with a hammer and a wood block to make things easy. Gently tap the track into the proper alignment by using the wood block and hammer (loosen the mounting bolt first, though). So that concludes this article on how to take care of your garage door and the tracks.
